The Lambton and Houghton banners were commissioned back in 2004. Funds were raised by a number of activities which acted as a way of bringing local communities together. As part of the project, we also undertook a variety of educational projects within local schools, to give local children and young people a creative insight into their industrial heritage. The banners were unveiled by Tony Benn and Rodney Bickerstaffe. The banners were dedicated at Durham Cathederal on 10th July 2004, and again on 10th October 2004 at St Michael's Church during the Houghton Feast Civic Service. These banners regularly attend the Durham Miners' Gala, the Houghton Feast, the Durham Banners Heritage Day and the Hepburn Memorial.
