Great Northern Banners (est. 2004) is a group of artists based in Newcastle upon Tyne who produce high quality trade union, replica and school banners, working with local communities to replicate historic or design new mining banners.

We see education as fundamental to our work. We hold educational workshops within communities and schools, helping young people develop an understanding of their mining heritage and produce junior banners and art works.

We work with well known artist Aidan Doyle to produce the finest images for these important community projects. We draw upon his wealth of knowledge on mining and art to make the workshops interesting and accessible to all, adults and children alike. We also work within the Trade Union movement to produce campaign banners for use at demonstrations. Our banners regularly appear at occasions such as the Durham Miners Gala, the Hepburn Memorial and the Tolpuddle Martyrs Day, amongst many others.
